What this past week was like (2-25-2012)

My entertainment for the last week is exceptionally varied. Let’s start off with my TV viewing. My wife and I are still working our way through “How I Met Your Mother.” We’re on season six which, unfortunately, is the last season available on Netflix. Also on the boob tube, I wrapped up “The League” season 2. It’s a relatively funny show based on a fantasy football league. What makes this show stand out a bit is that, in the vain of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” it’s partially scripted. Because the cast is mostly made up of comedians, it works well. On the movie front, I watched “Drive” and started to watch “J. Edgar.” Let me say that, for a movie nominated for multiple Oscars, “J. Edgar” is really bad. I love documentaries and historical dramas, but fitting into the latter category, “J. Edgar” is exceptionally slow and every boring. I’ll soldier my way through it, but it’s tough. “Drive,” on the other hand, was pretty good. I can’t say that it’s very unique in any way, but it’s entertaining. I have to give the movie an award for Most-Realistic-Shotgun-Blast-to-the-Head, so pay attention to the scene after the robbery goes bad. One last movie I got through was “Source Code.” I don’t remember this movie being in the theaters for too long, but I enjoyed it a lot. The movie is basically based on the idea that it’s possible to take over someone’s body for eight minutes with someone else who has died very recently. Something having to do with electrical fields. Who knows? So, Jake Gyllenhaal takes over someone who is a passenger on a train that’s about to be blown up, triggering the first of a chain of terrorist attacks in the US. Not to ruin spoil the movie, Jake repeats the same 8 minutes before the train blows up, investigating the passengers on the train until he figures out who the bomber is. Gaming has been all over the map. I started off the week with “Uncharted 3,” but unfortunately, the game is starting to lose me. I don’t know why, but my interest is waning. Because of that, I took the recommendation of the Every Day Gamer and started Mass Effect 2. If you played the first Mass Effect, you should settle into the sequel pretty easily. I have also been playing Twisted Metal on the PS3. Stay tuned to BGBureau.com for a review on that one. Share with friends!
